"Pale Fire" a digital painting created in September, 2011

I am working on a small oil painting that is a version of this digital painting --  a portrait of Vladimir Nabakov . . . but it is not working out in oil . . . I think sometimes the digital INI fotopoesia has its own integrity and cannot be recreated in a different painting medium such as oil . . . any thoughts?

First, I created the painting digitally in Adobe Photoshop, then I used a version of the printout for my source for the oil painting
